Our Stephen Ministers...

Stephen Ministry Care - Life can at times be difficult. When life throws you a curve ball and you are having a hard time we pray that you reach out for help. The Stephen Ministry Group at Lake Orion United Methodist Church CARES ABOUT YOU and what you are going through. We are a vibrant ministry supported by compassionate men and women that have helped minister to people dealing with issues such as: parenting concerns, divorce, depression, grief, cancer, and aging, just to name a few. Support can last several weeks, months or years depending on the needs of the person seeking the help. The compassionate people currently providing care through this ministry are:
Gina Adams, Kim Ahlborn, Cynthia Du, Stacy Dodson, Becky Doyle, Marilyn Gaskins, Carol Hassberger, Christine Kim, Gary Ishmael, Marcia Keller, Joyce Marker, Tim Marker, Carol McCormick, Sandy Reile, Ralph Reseigh, Brenda Ulery, and Charlie Weaver
Stephen Ministers support the needs of the congregation but also provide support to community members as well. If you or someone you love needs to talk with someone please contact Stephen Ministry Coordinator - Lisa Goyette at 248.693.6201 ext 202. A meeting can be quickly set up to explore getting you the help you deserve.
Stephen Ministry Training - Stephen Ministers train for a total of 50 hrs which usually equates to meeting once a week for 20 weeks. Training starts in the fall and runs through early spring. In the training the class is taught how to become better listeners, understand grief, depression, the importance of boundaries and confidentiality among other things. Once Stephen Ministers are commissioned they agree to provide support within this ministry for a 2-year period. Men always support men and women always support women. Offering this gift of care and prayer truly is a transformational experience.
