Blessings in a Big Bag Program 2025
First Delivery of 2024 Blessings in a Brown Bag Program
Thank you for your ongoing and generous contribution of food items for this program:
The Blessings in a Big Bag program which delivers non-perishable food items to children in the Lake Orion School district who qualify for the Free and Reduced School Lunch Program. In 2024, we delivered food to 51 children in 20 families spending $11,440 for a per child cost of $224. In 2025, we delivered food to 80 children in 30 families spending $12,976 for a per child cost of $162. We would like to express gratitude to the 28 donor families of LOUMC who supported the program through their generous financial contributions. We also want to thank the generous contributions from our greater community: Lake Orion American Legion Hall, Lake Orion Pita Way, Dr. Gary Holloway, Cheryl McKay, Sharon Ewler, Denise Jensen, the Wojo’s fundraiser, The Clark Foundation, and the Ross Waite Memorial Fund. With all this support, we ran a deficit of $2,968 for the 2025 program. While we have not yet been able to meet costs, we do have funds available to carry us through and look forward to running the program again in the summer of 2026.
One factor that helped us reduce our program expenses was the food contributions from our church family that progressively came in over the summer. We think that if we target a couple of needed food items each month until the program begins again in 2026, it will greatly help to further reduce the per child cost of the program. We will store these food items in the Blue Room until needed so please watch for notice of requested food items in The LINK and the All Church E-mail.
Lastly, we thank the volunteers who helped pack the food bags and drive the five delivery routes: Jo Knotts, Barb Middleton, Becki Doyle, Gail Rebert, Rick & Patty Kalso, Kathy & Barry McMinn, and Amber, Calvin and Camille Beaton.
