A Brief History of our Church...
1833
The first meeting of the Methodists in the home of Hiram Brown.
1853
Union church is built jointly by Baptists, Presbyterians, Methodists and Congregationalists.
1873
Sanctuary with basement is constructed on two lots near rail-road tracks on Flint Street (current location of AutoZone).
1902
Church building is moved to present location.
1920s
Church house is built and used for Fellowship.
1960s
Sanctuary is renovated.
1979
Sanctuary is enlarged and classrooms are built below the addition.
1987
Sanctuary is enlarged with new chancel. New offices are added. Building is purchased to become the fellowship hall and kitchen. An elevator is installed.
1996
The classrooms below the Sanctuary are renovated.
2003
“God’s Home Improvement” renovation.
2005
Building Study Committee is formed. Information is gathered, focus groups are conducted.
2006
Vote approved by 92% majority to move forward with renovating and building on present church site. Building Committee is formed. Celebration event takes place and the congregation pledges one million dollars toward the new building.
2007
Building committee and Architect revise plans based on the congregation pledges.
2008
Groundbreaking and construction of new Education Building begin.
2009
Dedication and grand opening of the new Education Building takes place in September.
2010
Major renovation of the steeple.
